Cambridge International A/AS Level is an internationally benchmarked qualification, taken in over 125 countries. A-Level has exactly the same value in admitting students to all universities as its UK equivalent. It is also accepted as an entry qualification by universities of the European Union, on a par with French Baccalaureate, German Arbiter, etc. Every year, A-Level students gain places at good universities worldwide – including the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
Xavier International College is registered with the University of Cambridge International Examinations (C.I.E.) for international examinations (Registration number: NP 711). A-Level examination is therefore conducted under the supervision of the British Council and the examination papers are both set and corrected in England, UK. Every A-Level subject is divided into two sections AS and A2 and there are examinations for each section with the final A-Level result being a combination of AS and A2 results.
Assessment Options
The College does not permit students to sit either as college or private candidates for the final A-Level examinations until they have completed this two-year program. A-Level examinations are usually taken normally over a two-year period. It is possible to repeat an examination in order to improve a grade.
Examination Session
A and AS Level examination sessions occur twice a year, in June and November, with results issued in August and January respectively.
Reporting Achievement
Each subject that a student takes at AS/A-Level receives a separately certificated grade. From 2010, the A-Level will be reported on a grade scale from A* grade, awarded for the highest level of achievement, to E, indicating the minimum required performance.
There is no A* grading in the certification of AS Levels, which will continue to run from Grade A to Grade E.
